General Description
Writing Center Consultants conduct tutorials with clients who visit the Harbert Writing Center in person or online.
The Harbert Writing Center accepts applications for tutors on a continuous basis to fill morning, afternoon, evening, and online needs for the school year and summer sessions.
However, this posting does not imply that there is an immediate opening.
Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and the instructional needs of the institution.
Essential Job Duties
1.
Assess clients’ writing needs.
2.
Assist with the day-to-day operations of the center.
3.
Provide classroom tutorials to center patrons.
Education and Experience
1.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2.
Successful completion of English 101 and 102 (or the equivalent) with a grade of B or higher.
3.
Enrollment in or completion of ENG 456, Writing Process: Theory and Practice (or the equivalent) with a grade of B or higher.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
1.
Newly hired Writing Consultants must complete 10 hours of tutor training provided by the HWC.
2.
Must understand the writing process.
3.
Successful candidates will possess excellent interpersonal skills with an aptitude to teach.
4.
Exhibit professional qualities of sound judgement, dependability, and confidentiality.
