Grade 12 CLOSE DATE 12/15/2023 SUMMARY Gymnastics Instructors in the Merit System are responsible for planning, organizing, and coaching recreational gymnastics programs in the jurisdictions they serve.
Gymnastics Instructors oversee classes offered to the general public, including participants with no previous gymnastics experience.
The position requires the planning and administration of recreational gymnastics programs.
Employees in this job class also spend time communicating and interacting with the public to gather feedback and promote parks and recreation gymnastics activities and special events.
The work of the Gymnastics Instructor is reviewed by a supervisor on a daily basis.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES: Plans, organizes, and instructs recreational and competitive gymnastics programs for community participants, including the coordination of gymnastics, tumbling, and related clinics/programs.
Routinely inspects all equipment for safety issues, and adherence to regulations in order to ensure compliance with gymnastic competition standards, and protocol for the safety of program participants.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience assisting in the planning and development of gymnastics recreation programs and activities (e.

, coaching various gymnastics levels, gymnastics summer camp programs, and gymnastics showcase events).

Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding protocols of various sporting equipment and surfaces.
Knowledge of the necessary methods and techniques of planning recreation programs and activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in employer-owned facilities such as community civic centers, recreation centers, etc.
Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
The job may require working on holidays.
The job may also require working overtime (e.
g.
, in the morning, during lunch, or after normal working hours).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job involves significant and concerted physical exertion required for regular prolonged periods of walking, running, stooping, kneeling, crouching, etc.
