Description The Coordinator of Multicultural Student Support will report to the Assistant Director of Multicultural Initiatives and Events and play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of Samford University's student body.
This role is pivotal in implementing and leading various programs and initiatives aimed at promoting the academic, personal, and social success of multicultural students.
The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, student organizations, and other university departments to ensure all students feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
Job Duties • Assist in the coordination and execution of diversity initiatives and programs that support multicultural students.
• Create and implement the IMPACT Mentoring Program, including programming, cadre oversight, and participant recruitment.
• Support the management of the Diversity Ambassadors Program to advance diversity initiatives.
• Represent the Office of Diversity at Admission events and programming, including Bulldog Days and other summer recruiting events.
• Act as a liaison between multiple on-campus units working with students and parents.
• Collaborate with various campus partners to enhance diversity recruitment and retention efforts.
• Demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Perform general clerical duties such as correspondence, reports, database entry, copying, filing, and preparing mail.
• Assist with organizing, setting up, and coordinating various events to support the office's goals and objectives.
• Support the office's social media efforts to promote diversity initiatives.
Qualifications • Bachelor's degree required.
• At least one (1) year of experience in roles supporting high school or college students, with a preference for experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives.
• Possess a current, valid driver's license.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and capability to learn new software as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
• Proven ability to initiate and prioritize responsibilities, and achieve desired results by designated • deadlines, and ensure outcomes are aligned with the mission of the Office of Diversity and • Samford University.
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently without direct supervision while • demonstrating individual initiative.
• Strong decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact positively with • employees at all levels of the university and the general public.
• Physical ability to walk across campus as required.
• Warm, pleasant, and professional demeanor, with a commitment to a collaborative approach.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Experience working in a higher educational institution.
• Skills in additional languages, especially Spanish, to support diverse student populations.
• Possess relevant certification or training that demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of diversity and inclusion principles.
