SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Education Programs Manager will create and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate educational programs which include (but are not limited to): school group programs at the Museum, community outreach programs, special events, and some weekend and evening programs.
Other key responsibilities include increasing field trip bookings; and outreach to local schools and events while promoting the mission of the museum through innovative activities and exhibits.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
The Education Programs Manager reports directly to the Director of Museum Events and Programs
Examples of Duties:
Field Trip Program Facilitator
Act as the Program Lead in management of all Education events with responsibility of training and prioritizing the activities of the Education Coordinator.
Book field trips (maintain appointments on company calendar)
Ensure invoices, and tax exemption forms are on file and delivered
Conduct education volunteer training
Education Program Development
Develop new programs: creating new and creative learning using current state standards of education as well as creating new activities for hands-on learning in the classroom
Update current curriculum to meet Alabama State Academic Standards
Revise current curriculum as needed
Create and send educational focused e-blast communications to teachers and other stakeholders
Maintain a current database of teachers emails for the purpose of sending e-blasts and other digital communications
Contunuing Education: Research and work toward attaining STEM Certification(s)
Summer Education Programs
Develop STEM related summer camps
Facilitate and lead summer camps
Boy Scout Program
Supervise and deliver Boy Scout programs
Develop new merit badge programs with the assistance of the programs manager
Ensure volunteers hold current credentials as required by the Boy Scouts of America
Recruit volunteers with the assistance of the Programs Manager
Provide program specific training
Continuing Education: Research and work toward attaining BSA Certification(s)
Public Event Weekends
Assist at the Guest Services Desk and Turn 9 Club operations
Identify ways to engage with the community including but not limited to networking with local businesses and institutions.
Attend community events to promote museum education programs
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field.
Three to five years experience in education or museum setting.
Two to five years experience working with children.
Experience with research, development, implementation, and oversight of programs for young audiences in a museum or other learning setting.
Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
Knowledge, Skill, Ability:
Familiarity with the Alabama Course of Study and with STEM curriculum is preferred.
Proven experience in designing class curriculum and creating hands-on educational activities with a limited budget.
Remain current on learning theory, informal education, and child development issues.
Ability to communicate with the public, including Museum visitors, teachers, parents/caregivers, program donors, and community members in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to master basic office skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to handle emergency situations with professionalism and competence.
Ability to load, unload, and set up materials and equipment (up to 40 lbs).
Able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 6 hours).
