Summary
The Mandarin teacher will instruct in the language and cultures of Mandarin.
The teacher will create and maintain a strong program (in conjunction with the other Mandarin teacher) and a positive learning environment; establish effective rapport with students and parents; strive to understand the students both developmentally and academically.

Essential Functions Identifies clear learning and teaching objectives for producing strong, age-appropriate lessons (ranges from 5th and 6th grade) that cover a wide range of language skills.
Ensures objectives are met through effective teaching, high expectations, and sound learning in an inclusive, engaging classroom environment.
Sets high expectations for student learning, motivation, and production of the language.
Sets clear targets for students’ learning, builds on prior attainment, and ensures students are always aware of all requirements.
Provides students with feedback, encouragement, and support.
Consistently assesses student achievement through formal and informal assessments.
Has strong classroom management skills for effectively monitoring student behavior and interactions.
Helps support our school mission by being a positive role model and demonstrates professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
Provides an enthusiastic and stimulating learning experience that uses a variety of teaching methods and strategies that help cultivate mastery of the language.
Improves their teaching performance through continued professional development.
Will join a national or state professional organization related to World Languages (Mandarin).
Attends and participates in faculty meetings, serves on committees as required, and is attentive to other assignments deemed necessary by the head of school or department head.
Establishes and maintains a professional relationship and open lines of communication, with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Degree preferably in Mandarin or can demonstrate native-like fluency and mastery of the language.
Ideally has an education background with knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
Prepared to teach age-appropriate classes for 5th-12th grade, drawing on educational psychology and sound pedagogy.
Demonstrates flexibility, organization, decision making and problem-solving skills.
Has strong communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills.
Able to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of students.
Instructs students, while managing their behavior, during classes and class related activities.
Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies is a must.
Experience using a variety of technology tools related to teaching and language learning.
Proficiency using programs such as Microsoft Suite and learning management systems.
Experience teaching language classes preferred.
