Position Summary The Academic Advising Assistant provides assistance, advising, and guidance to students, supports faculty advisors, and assists with other administrative duties within the Advising Center and the student services areas.
Salary Schedule:E4 05 ($33,625 -$50,777) appropriate placement based on experience This position is on a non-tenure track and is ineligible for non-probationary status due to finite funding and duration as provided in Alabama Code 16-24C-4(3)(b).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides optimal customer service including, but not limited to, courteous and responsive written and verbal communication; Receives and directs incoming telephone calls and visitors; Advises students, monitors advising center activity, tracks and provides academic support to students as assigned; Supports retention programs by following up on existing initiatives and identifying new outreach opportunities; Assists students in assessing their skills, interests and aptitudes as well as identifying realistic career goals and developing individual educational plans; Provides assistance to students and instructors to problem-solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, attendance, and graduation; Assists with events and other learning opportunities that support students in reaching their academic and career goals; Provides information and assists students in areas such as academic standing, college policies, campus resources, admission to selective programs, major and course selection, financial aid information, and graduation requirements; Participates in appropriate training/professional development, including state and regional association conferences; Assists in statistical data collection for reporting and/or funding purposes; Updates and/or develops academic success and advising resources including, but not limited to online and print resources; Advises students regarding degree/certificate plans and STARS articulation agreements as appropriate to the program; Works during registration, orientation and other student services events as needed; Works multi-campuses with an ability to work a flexible schedule which may include day, evenings, nights and weekends; Serves on committees as assigned; Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrative head.

Qualifications Associate’s degree in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution; Bachelor's degree preferred; Minimum of one-year full-time working experience in student services within higher education; Experience in conducting workshops/seminars; able to develop multiple projects and activities; Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
