The YMCA focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
To coordinate planning, development, staff oversight, and implementation of all activities in the summer day camp program under the direction of the Childcare Director.
This position is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean summer program site; ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families.
Lead and actively participate in sports/games with children, be able to effectively monitor behavior while using appropriate discipline techniques, and develop age-appropriate activities.
The Day Camp Coordinator will provide a positive role model to youth & teens within the philosophy of YMCA standards and expectations with an emphasis on youth development and healthy living.
Essential Functions: Display YMCA core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility at all times) Administer and oversee the curriculum outlines on a daily basis as part of the goals set in conjunction with the YMCA Child Care Director.
Supervise staff to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
Including assisting in applying sunscreen and making sure children stay hydrated.
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings to help plan activities.
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with parents, campers, and staff Model for counselors in how to lead games and activities.
Implement and ensure the STEM program curriculum is done on a weekly basis.
Assist staff in ensuring campers apply sunscreen and stay hydrated.
Know where all group members are at all times.
Maintain minimum requirements for state and YMCA standards.
Maintain an accurate ratio at all times.
Report all injuries and incidents to the Child Care Director.
Develop positive relationships with parents and staff.
Position may require work outside the regularly scheduled program hours.
Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements: Minimum age of 19 years old Previous supervisory experience Successful completion of background and Child Abuse & Neglect screening Acquire and maintain the following certifications: First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted) Requisite Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.
Demonstrated responsibility and dependability.
Follow through actions regarding communication with all parents.
Must exhibit patience and understanding.
Receives and follows detailed instructions.
Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
Ability to work up to 40 hours weekly.
Physical Demands: Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children's well-being.
May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
Physically, actively engage in play and sports.
Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind.
