Job Description
The Department of Pediatrics and Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a BC/BE PEM physician to join our division.
Families come from all over the state and surrounding states to seek care in the only free-standing children’s hospital in Alabama.
Our ED volume in 2018 was over 73,000 of which 13% were admitted.
Our ED moved to a new facility in 2012 and has 53 rooms including 4 major resuscitation rooms and a 4-bed unit specialized for the care of psychiatric patients.
Our fellowship program has been active for 35 years currently training 3 fellows per year.
Faculty are encouraged and supported to pursue work in education, advocacy, quality improvement and/or research.
Scholarly activity is expected but is broadly defined.
Academic rank and salary offered are commensurate with experience and achievement.
We are looking for an excellent clinician and energetic team-minded faculty member to educate trainees, develop programs, and add to the academic environment.
A clinical promotion pathway is also available and a nocturnist shift differential is an option for those interested.
Children’s of Alabama is a private, not-for-profit medical center that also serves as the primary site of the UAB pediatric medicine, surgery, research and residency programs.
For more than 50 years, the partnership between UAB and Children’s has provided outstanding care to the youngest, most vulnerable patients and established Birmingham as a nationally renowned center for pediatric medicine.
With more than 2 million square feet, the newly expanded Children’s Hospital is the third largest pediatric medical facility in the U.

and has consistently been ranked among the top children’s hospitals in the country by US News & World Report.
Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama, with a metropolitan population over 1 million.
The city is thriving with a growing restaurant and arts scene, charming neighborhoods, and many outdoor park and entertainment spaces.
Birmingham was recently named a top American City of the Future and is home to the 2018 James Beard Most Outstanding Restaurant in America.
Birmingham is well located in the Southeast with easy access to lakes, mountains, and gulf beaches.
