Exceptional candidates will be considered at the rank of Associate, or full Professor, based on experience and qualifications.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health, or related fields and are expected to develop a rigorous externally funded research program in Built Environment and Sustainable Healthy communities, teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor students, and perform service activities.
Joint appointments with any other department in the School of Engineering or School of Public Health will be considered if appropriate.
Research Areas Ideal candidates will have a strong record of inter-disciplinary research and scholarship in Built Environment and Sustainable Healthy Communities.
Preference will be given to candidates with active research in one or more of the following areas: climate change and health, environmental health sciences, water and health, air pollution and health, community engagement, health monitoring, equity and social and environmental justice in health outcomes.
Preference will also be given to candidates with a strong background in computational and data driven methodologies, sensor-based decision making, and systems approaches.
Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with multiple existing centers and initiatives at UAB.

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental (CCEE) Engineering, School of Engineering The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) boasts a thriving undergraduate program, multiple highly ranked online Master of Engineering programs, and MS/PhD programs.
CCEE faculty conduct research in the built environment, congestion management, infrastructure resiliency, and high-performance structural materials.
Birmingham is home to major construction companies that generate over $6.

The department has a 100 percent placement rate for graduates seeking jobs and 85 percent of undergraduates in the department complete a regional internship or co-op during their time at UAB.
The Department has strong, longstanding working relationships with the Alabama Department of Transportation, the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham and the City of Birmingham.
CCEE has coordinated degree programs and established research collaborations with UAB’s School of Public Health (SPH), which is ranked in the top-20 nationally by US News and World Report.

edu/engineering/civil/ The Department of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health The Department of Environmental Health Sciences contributes to a robust undergraduate program and houses three masters-level graduate programs.
The department also has a strong doctoral research program.
EHS faculty conduct research in the built environment, air pollution, water pollution, food safety, exposure sciences, risk assessment, climate and health, and occupational safety and health.
Environmental health risk factors are investigated in the context of physical and mental health including maternal child health, neurodevelopment, respiratory disease, cancer, metabolic disease, neurological health, and healthy aging.
Faculty use a variety of research strategies from bench research using controlled experimentation to population research to community-based participatory research.
Research activities are funded by several extramural agencies including the NIH, NIOSH, USEPA, NSF, NOAA, and USDA.
