Position Information School/College College of Arts and Sciences Title College of Arts and Sciences-Assistant/Associate Professor-NTE-Psychology Assignment Category Full-Time Rank Assistant/Associate Professor Tenure Status Non-Tenure Track Payroll Status Faculty 9 Job Description The Department of Psychology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor, non-tenure-track, 9-month full-time faculty position to begin in August 2024.
The typical teaching load for this position is four courses per semester (8 per academic year).
Teaching assignments will include general courses such as introductory psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, and research methodology courses that both the undergraduate and graduate level, and may include both traditional and online formats, with additional courses based upon the candidate’s area of specialization.
Courses may be repeated across multiple semesters, or multiple sections of the same course might be taught in a single semester.
Course size will vary by topic, typically 100-200 level courses are large lecture courses, while upper level undergraduate and graduate courses range in size from 25-50 students Psychology is one of the largest undergraduate programs in the UAB College of Arts and Sciences and is the top 80-ranked undergraduate psychology program in the country as ranked by US News & World report.
Our growing department supports 1,375 undergraduate students, with more than 170 students enrolled in the online program and 395 students in the interdisciplinary Undergraduate Neuroscience Program.
The department offers a Departmental Honors Program and more than 38% of our undergraduate students participate in mentored research.
The department supports three doctoral programs – Behavioral Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, and Medical/Clinical Psychology.
Interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching are prominent, and the Department of Psychology collaborates closely with multiple units in the UAB School of Medicine, as well as other departments across campus.

edu/cas/psychology Required Qualifications The person selected for this position must have completed a doctoral degree in Psychology by August 2024 and demonstrate successful teaching experience in variety of courses at the undergraduate level (either in the classroom, online, or both) at the college/university level.
Successful candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as a track record of innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies.
The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Preferred Qualifications A minimum 3 of years teaching experience is preferred.
