Position Information School/College School of Medicine Title School of Medicine-Open Rank-Pediatrics-Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Assignment Category Full-Time Rank Open Rank Tenure Status Open Tenure Payroll Status Faculty 12 Job Description UAB Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is actively recruiting for faculty member to join the Children’s of Alabama/University of Alabama Birmingham (COA/UAB) Aerodigestive Program.
This is a tremendous opportunity to further develop an established academic program in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, and participate in training of fellows, residents and medical students.
Responsibilities include clinical duties, educational efforts, scholarly work, and enhancing advocacy.
Research opportunities exist within the Division and Department and are encouraged and supported.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with basic scientists.
Founded in 2013, the COA/UAB Aerodigestive Program was one of the first such programs in the country and is now one of the largest with both strong clinical and research components.
With a strong commitment to the comprehensive care of children with overlapping symptoms of the respiratory and GI tracts, the candidate would join a team comprised of 2 other gastroenterologists, 3 pulmonologists, 3 otolaryngologists, 4 speech language pathologists, a dietitian, and social worker to provide outstanding multidisciplinary care in outpatient clinical settings (>1000 visits annually) and commensurate volume of joint procedures.
Common diagnoses include oropharyngeal dysphagia, eosinophilic esophagitis, pediatric feeding disorder, tracheoesophageal fistula, malnutrition, and reflux in patients with other respiratory or airway abnormalities.
In addition to providing comprehensive clinical care, the candidate would contribute to scholarly work and studies that have included severe pharyngeal dysphagia management, timing of laryngeal cleft repair, utility of endoscopic investigations, genetic disorders in Aerodigestive patients.
The Division currently has eighteen board certified/board eligible faculty as well as a well-staffed practice housed at Children’s of Alabama (COA).
The Division also has an active, accredited fellowship program that is approved for two new fellows per year.
The Division is well-supported by Advanced Practice Practitioners, Dietitians, Social worker, psychologist, nursing staff, administrative team.
With more than 2 million square feet, COA is the third largest pediatric medical facility in the U.
S.
COA offers inpatient and outpatient services across its Russell Campus on Birmingham’s historic Southside with additional outpatient services provided at Children’s South and Children’s on 3rd.
Primary care is provided at more than a dozen medical offices in communities across central Alabama.
Children’s of Alabama is the only medical center in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children.
It is a private, not-for-profit medical center, which serves as the primary site of the University of Alabama at Birmingham pediatric medicine, surgery, research and residency programs.
