Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking applications for two (2) full-time, nine-month Assistant Professor, tenure track position in the Department of Social Work starting August 15, 2024.
The Department is interested in applicants with research agendas in the following areas: Minority health/ minority mental health; health equity; mental health; aging and health; racial justice, anti-oppressive practice; substance use and addictions; child welfare; and interpersonal violence.
Successful candidates should be able to contribute to the diversity and excellence within the Department through their research, teaching, and service.
Candidates for this position must possess an MSW and PhD in Social Work or an allied profession at the time of the appointment.
The UAB Department of Social Work has a diverse and nationally recognized faculty with expertise in the areas of health, behavioral health, child welfare, program evaluation, and educational innovation.
The faculty engage in collaborative research with colleagues across the UAB Campus, including the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health.
The Department also has strong connections to community-based agencies throughout Alabama, which provide exceptional field placements for students and collaborative research opportunities.
All faculty and staff in the Department are strongly committed to a research and teaching mission focused on promoting social and economic justice and improving the health and well-being of underserved individuals and communities.
The Department’s BSSW Program has been accredited for over 40 years, serving approximately 150 majors annually.
The MSW Program provides a specialized curriculum in clinical health and behavioral health, with an enrollment of approximately 100 students.
Both programs collaborate with other health science programs across the campus through research and robust simulation and interprofessional learning activities.
