Position Information School/College School of Medicine Title School of Medicine-Assistant Professor-Med-Preventive Medicine Assignment Category Full-Time Rank Assistant Professor Tenure Status Open Tenure Payroll Status Faculty 12 Job Description The Division of Preventive Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine seeks doctoral-level scientists for multiple Assistant Professor positions, both tenure track and non-tenure earning.
Salary and tenure status commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Early career investigators who have completed postdoctoral training or similar experiences and who demonstrate high potential to obtain extramural funding are sought.
A successful track record of pilot/feasibility grants, training awards, and scholarly productivity is desired.
Physician candidates must be board certified or board eligible in a pertinent specialty and eligible to be licensed in Alabama.
Candidates from a variety of disciplines such as medicine, public health, behavioral science, psychology, or epidemiology are invited to apply.
We seek to enhance existing collaborations and build on research strengths in multiple areas including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, cancer prevention and control, and life-course and aging, with cross-cutting themes of health disparities/vulnerable populations, outcomes research, community-based behavioral science, biostatistics, and population-based clinical trials and observational studies.
Candidates whose research aligns with existing senior faculty’s research is advantageous to promote mentorship and collaboration.
For clinician scientists, clinical practice linkages are available through affiliated health care systems.
Candidates will be considered who have experience and a strong interest in the prevention and management of chronic diseases, including cancer; cardiovascular disease; diabetes and obesity; chronic diseases and/or genetic epidemiology; health services research; patient and provider outcomes; quality of care and clinical effectiveness; racial disparities; and women’s health.
UAB secured nearly $849 million in research grants and awards from the 12-month period ending on Sept.
30, 2021, which represents a one-year increase of 33%, includes two pandemic-related awards that totaled $201 million.
Each of UAB’s six health-related schools is among the top 10 public universities receiving funding from the National Institutes of Health, and UAB ranks among the top 3% of U.

universities based on all federal research funding awarded.
Industry support from all sources totaled $149 million, up 49% for the year.
Industry-supported clinical trials, a subset of this number, increased $42 million, or 56%, for the year.
In FY 2021, intellectual property disclosures managed by the UAB increased 50% to 127, with 19 patents issued, 44 licenses executed, three startups launched and $4.
87 million in revenue was generated.
UAB research grants and awards are at a record high, exceeding $527 million in FY18, including $320 million in NIH funding for FY18.
UAB ranks 15th in federal funding nationally among public universities (top 4 percent) and 31st overall (top 5 percent).
