We are seeking to grow our educational efforts in the field of environmental and public health at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Specifically, we are interested in applicants who can share their passion and commitment to environmental health with students both in and outside of the classroom.
This is a non-tenure earning, full-time (12-month) position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with the potential for advancement in rank.
Initial rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Courses will be assigned based on the applicant’s interests or in response to programmatic needs.
Teaching will be the primary responsibility, with additional scholarly activity being highly encouraged, especially activity involving students.
In addition, this position will require service to the Department, School, and University.
The UAB School of Public Health’s mission is to make positive and lasting change in the public’s health through the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service to the larger community.
Founded in 1978, the School has grown to 75 full-time faculty and 1,100 students.
In 2019, the School had over $37 million in research funding, with roughly half coming from NIH, and has been ranked in the top 20 NIH-funded Schools of Public Health for the last 10 years.
Birmingham, Alabama, is a vibrant city, and along with the surrounding area, offers extensive cultural, dining, entertainment, and recreational options for people at all stages of life.
As the home of the Civil Rights movement, Birmingham and the Deep South in general provide outstanding opportunities for high-impact public health education, research, and practice.

Teaching Portfolio should contain applicant’s teaching philosophy, an evaluation of their teaching skills, and details on teaching-related professional development activities.
Applicants selected for an on-campus interview will give a teaching demonstration which highlights their innovative approach to teaching diverse students.
Letters of reference (minimum of three) including at least one that addresses the applicant’s teaching ability should be made available upon request.
