To provide a plan to implement and integrate child development activities for assigned children in such a manner that contributes to their growth and development and in accordance with best practices for serving young children according to the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
*Essential Job Responsibilities*
* Design and set up a classroom and learning centers based on curriculum, children's interests, needs, and best practices.
* Provide constant and continuous supervision of children daily during all indoor and outdoor activities and nap time.
* Develop and plan to provide developmentally appropriate activities for each assigned child based on each learning domain.
* Screen each assigned child according to the prescribed schedule using an agency-defined screening instrument to meet the 45-day compliance.
* Conduct anecdotal observations weekly during daily activities for each assigned child for development and learning.
* Assess each assigned child according to the prescribed schedule using an agency-defined assessment instrument.
* Develop Group Weekly and Individualized Lesson plans as appropriate based on curriculum and children's interests.
* Schedule at least two parent conferences per year to discuss the child's progress, updates, and needs of their child.
*Knowledge/Skills*
* Ability to visually assess children's health and behaviors and make frequent significant decisions to assure their health and safety.
* Ability to apply developmentally appropriate practices for young children in a classroom, playground, and bus setting.
* Frequently kneeling, bending at the waist and neck, sitting on the floor, and frequently getting up and down from the seat to assist children on the bus and in the classroom.
* Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.
) in a classroom setting, assisting children into bus seats, and the ability to carry or drag a child out of a bus to a safe area in an emergency.
* Strong knowledge of Early Childhood Development theories and practices in Head Start.
*Education Requirements*
* A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related area is preferred.
*Minimum:* Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related area and six months of experience working with children in an education setting or as a Head Start Teacher Assistant.
* Working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start, and Childcare regulatory environment.
* Oral and written communication skills that facilitate and support positive feedback from parents and between staff at all operational levels.
