BASIC QUALIFICATION: * Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
* *Must possess a sign language proficiency evaluation of Survival Plus upon employment*.
* Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SLPI) available through AIDB).
*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:* * Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
* A sign language proficiency evaluation of INTERMEDIATE PLUS upon employment.
*POSITION REQUIREMENTS:* * Must possess a sign language proficiency level of *INTERMEDIATE *according to the AIDB evaluation system within the first twelve months of employment.
* Must possess a sign language proficiency of *INTERMEDIATE PLUS *within the first twenty four (24) months of employment.
* Must possess a sign language proficiency of *ADVANCED *within the first thirty six (36) months of employment.
* Must complete a Foundations in Deaf/Hard of Hearing E-Learning course within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
*Performance Responsibilities:* * Must possess computer skills necessary to assist teachers and students with classroom activities.
* Must be able to physically assist with the lifting and other needs of assigned wheelchair and/or physically disabled students.
* Assist teachers and staff with individual student(s) as assigned.
● Assist teachers and staff with reproducing materials, checking papers, recording grades, filing, typing, delivering, copying, laminating and performing other office duties as needed.
* Carry out instructional duties under teacher direction as needed.
* Work cooperatively as a team with other school personnel to best serve the student(s).
* Deal with emergency situations in a calm and logical manner.
* Use tact and friendliness with parents and all other non-staff personnel.
● Transport and chaperone student(s) to, from, and while on field trips and other trips.
● Attend departmental meetings, school-wide meetings, in-services, training sessions and workshops provided.
* Perform lunch duty in the office and cafeteria as needed.
* Perform bus duty as needed which involves supervision of students in the cafeteria and assisting with ensuring students get on the correct bus and medicines are distributed to the bus driver/aide.
* Cover supervision of students in ISS (In School Suspension) and/or other locations as needed.
* Assist with extracurricular activities, especially those assigned to the department.
● Sign at all times while on campus or at ASD sponsored events.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
