POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sports Camp Counselor engages and supervises groups of children ages 5-12 years old in a variety of sports activities and ensures that they have a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience in these group activities.
Responsible for carrying out lesson plans designed by Camp Director and Coordinator Coach campers in a variety of sports, including basketball, flag football, soccer and volleyball.
Responsible for maintaining effective discipline and safety procedures during all camp activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Ensure a group of assigned campers is supervised and safe
Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
Prepare and lead a variety of activities that are age-appropriate
Model good behavior for campers as it relates to sportsmanship, manners, and respectfulness
Identify teachable moments and capitalize on them
Perform all responsibilities in a manner that guarantees the safety of campers
Facilitate and encourage participation in camp activities
Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
1 year of experience supervising and working with children, preferably as a camp counselor or teacher
Certification in CPR and AED preferred
First aid skills and training preferred
Ability to pass a background check
Experience with a variety of recreational and athletic activities, knowledge of basic sport skills and instruction, and knowledge of sport rules and regulations
General mobility including, but not limited, to walking, kneeling, and standing
Proven ability to maintain a safe environment for others in adherence with provided protocol and standards
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and lead activities for large groups of children
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend
Must be able to walk to identify problems or hazards as well as work with children during recreational activities
PREFERRED:
Camp or organized youth sports experience
Experience organizing youth activities
