*Summary/Objective*
The Assistant Teacher provides support to the Lead Teacher in the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care.
Assistant Teachers also must develop partnerships with parents in order to engage and encourage parent participation.
*Essential Functions*
* Build relationships with parents and staff
* Provide a clean environment for the children
* Maintain a safe and healthy classroom
* Ability to maintain classroom control
* Uphold confidentiality
* Be prepared to take on the role of lead teacher when needed
* Assist the lead teacher with child supervision in the classroom, common areas and playground
* Actively engage in classroom activities
* Assist the lead teacher with classroom control
* Distribute projects and assignments to each child’s folder
* Assist in the completion of reports as needed (health, incident, accident, daily)
* Make copies of classroom materials
* Inventory each child’s cubby for items needed (clothes, diaper, wipes, etc)
* Assist the lead teacher with lesson plans as needed
* Sanitize cots
* Check classroom equipment and materials to ensure they are in good repair
* Help resolve issues or concerns with parents as they arise-know when to involve the front office administration
* Laminate teaching materials as needed
* Assist the lead teacher in updating classroom décor to reflect lessons
* Assist the lead teacher in developing projects/crafts for the month
* Perform student evaluations
*Qualifications*
* High school diploma
* 1 year classroom experience preferred
* Successfully pass a background check
* CPR/1stAid certified
*Physical Demands*
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
*Position Type/Expected Hours of Work*
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday and hours are typically 8am-5pm or 9 am-6 pm.
Extended hours may be necessary as needed to cover staffing during business hours.
