_*SYNOPSIS: *__This is specialized administrative municipal judicial court work in the operation of municipal court.
Work involves the performance of complex clerical and municipal court duties including acting as a court clerk in his/her absence, coordinating a weekly court docket; entering each case/ticket into court office software; assigning case numbers, and appointing an appropriate court date.
Takes pleas; prepares subpoenas; coordinates with attorneys, judges, prosecutors, officers, Department of Public Safety, and state probation officers.
Disposes of court cases and proceedings coordinates and follows up with driver’s license suspensions, and citations, and properly records mandatory inmate time.
Incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Court Clerk but must exercise a great deal of independent decisions based on experience and knowledge of court operations, municipal ordinances, and state law.

*_ _*QUALIFICATIONS:*_ * _Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or hold a certificate of high school equivalency (GED)_ * _Must be sworn in as a Court Magistrate and filed with the Alabama Office of Courts and Probate Office_ * _If not certified must be able to enroll within six months, attend, complete, and pass the following within one year from date of employment: Five Orientations directed by the Alabama Office of Courts (Montgomery, Alabama); and one Regional Seminar directed by the Alabama Office of Courts_ * _If certified must be able to attend an annual maintenance class directed by the Alabama Office of Courts in order to maintain certification_ * _Ability to plan and organize work with little or no supervision_ * _Must possess computer skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the position with knowledge of Microsoft Windows® and other relevant computer systems;_ * _Must have knowledge of related office equipment_ * _Ability to accept lines of authority, promote harmony, and cooperate with other staff and officials_ * _Ability to maintain confidential files in an efficient and orderly fashion_ * _Be reliable, punctual, and organized, and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities in a very busy court office_ * _Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record suitable for insurability_ * _Must be willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required_ * _Must be willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops_ * _Ability to lift and handle at least 25 lbs_ * _Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position_ _*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*_ * _Must maintain certified status as required by the Alabama Office of Courts_ * _Prepare and coordinate weekly court docket_ * _Prepare and issue required documents in compliance with court rules, city ordinances, and governing laws_ * _Collect and account for money paid into the court_ * _Prepare and make appropriate disbursements as required_ * _Communicate with the public, defendants, attorneys, prosecutors, officers, and interested parties in regard to court rules and procedures_ * _Issue arrest warrants; receive guilty pleas and impose scheduled fines; Assist Court Clerk in preparing subpoenas and warrants_ * _Approve surety appeal and appearance bonds_ * _Maintain confidentiality at all times_ * _Maintain official court records and files as required_ * _Perform other job-related tasks as assigned or required_ _*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*_ * _Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing the legal process related to municipal court operations and assignments;_ * _Knowledge of legal terminology, documents, and rules governing the filing and recording of legal documents;_ * _Knowledge of modern administrative office practices, procedures, equipment, and computers;_ * _Knowledge of clerical and record keeping involved in court operations.
