Position Information School/College School of Medicine Title HSOM - Trauma & Acute Care Surgery - Open Rank/Tenure Assignment Category Full-Time Rank Open Rank Tenure Status Open Tenure Payroll Status Faculty 12 Job Description The University of Alabama Birmingham, Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for a tenure track or non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research and teaching needs, as applicable, in the Department of Surgery. The Division provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary program of care for severely injured multisystem trauma and burn victims, as well as those requiring emergency surgical procedures and surgical critical care. UAB Hospital is the only Level I Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons in the state of Alabama, and is a major treatment center in the southeastern U.S. for patients suffering traumatic injury. The Division is engaged in active research related to improving the fields of trauma, burn, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care. The Division also houses a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program that is ACGME accredited and accepts four fellows per year. In addition to our focus on patient care, we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state’s largest metropolitan area. In FY2020, UAB received over $325 million in NIH extramural grants and contracts. As of the fall of 2021, the University employed 23,000 people, had a faculty of 2,459 (43% of whom are female), and had a student enrollment of just under 23,000 at the undergraduate through doctoral levels. The graduate student population is 67% female and 30% are among ethnic minorities. UAB is comprised of 10 academic colleges and schools in the health sciences and academic areas.
