Description
This position support an NSF grant, “STEM Scholars: Persistence and Achievement in STEM for Community College transfer students”.
The coordinator will work closely with the STEM Administrator and STEM Grant Principal Investigator (PI) and on all aspects of the design and implementation of the SSTEM program.
Job Duties
This position is responsible for coordinating the S-STEM programs including:
• Handling logistics for, and recruitment of, prospective students at Community
college venues
• Coordinating with webservices and Samford PR professionals to update websites
and social media
• Planning and developing conjoint events that include Samford University and
community college students.
• Developing project-related marketing materials
• Introducing prospective STEM Scholars to Samford University and the STEM
program.
• Interfacing with prospective and current students, and handling administrative
duties related to student recruitment and support.
• Representing the STEM program to current and future students
• Introducing/representing the STEM program to local churches and civic
organizations.
• Maintaining accurate records and databases vital for grant record-keeping.
• Training peer mentors.
• Coordinating with Academic Success center to aid STEM student academic
progress.
• Developing and supporting arrangements for research, tutoring, internships,
training, mentoring, academic, and social events.
• Creating and organizing community service events, both on and off campus
• Networking with Samford departments to smoothly accomplish academic, service,
and social goals of STEM program.
• Helping design an coordinate appealing “check in” opportunities and spaces for
STEM students.
The coordinator will work closely with the STEM Administrator and STEM Grant

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree, prefer a degree in Math, Science, Social Science, Computer
science, or an allied field.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Ability to use Excel and skills sufficient to track expenditures.
• Ability to learn databases.
• Excellent writings and editing skills, especially in areas of translating complex
ideas to students.
• A strong interest in and disposition for working with undergraduate students from
diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work occasional extended hours.
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to drive personal vehicle and 15-
passenger van.
• Ability to walk 2 miles with ease and to carry a pack of up to 20 pounds.
• Patient, dedicated, and enthusiastic personality.
• Comfort with flexible schedule and responsibilities.
• Comfort with website and social media.
