*Faculty Positions in Mechanical Engineering*
The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is going through significant growth and expansion.
We invite applications from highly qualified individuals for cluster hiring in the broad area of mechanical engineering, including manufacturing, health science, and materials for defense and harsh conditions.
Under this initiative, multiple full-time, 9-month tenure-track positions are available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
Appointment ranks will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Joint appointments with other engineering departments are available if a strong synergy exists.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, demonstrate strong potential or record in conducting leading-edge research and publishing high-quality scholarly work, and be able to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses of the Department.
The candidate should also be highly interested in serving the needs of the MME Department and the university community.
A proven track record of competitive funding as PI is highly desired.
*Mechanical and Materials Engineering at **UAB* The MME Department has 18 faculty members, 240 undergraduate majors, 70 full-time graduate students, and more than 100 online master’s students.
Current research strengths include computational fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, advanced manufacturing, metal castings and alloys, and composites for industrial and defense applications.
The Department will be moving into a new state-of-the-art building in 2025, and is further supported by a unique on-campus pilot plant and foundry facility, the Materials Processing & Applications Development (MPAD) Center, as well as Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) – one of the nation’s leading developers in cold stowage hardware for use in microgravity and space exploration.
The Department offers excellent opportunities for collaboration with units across UAB in areas including materials, disability and rehabilitation engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship, nanoscale science, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and more.
Outside the university, UAB Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering maintain strong ties with many steel, power, automotive, and defense companies in Alabama and nationally.
