Job Description
The UAB Department of Physics, https://www.
uab.
edu/cas/physics/, within the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position (9-month appointment) that will strengthen the Department’s program in Materials under Extreme Conditions.
This position will start in Fall 2024.
The faculty member will become part of a newly awarded DOE NNSA Center of Excellence in additively manufactured complex systems under extremes in the physics department at UAB.

Required Qualifications A qualified applicant will have a Ph.
D.
in Physics or a related field.
Research areas of interest include (but are not limited to) dynamic compression of materials, laser shock compression and ultrafast diagnostics, and phase transitions in compositionally complex materials under extreme pressures, temperatures, and strain rates.
Preferred Qualifications The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop a highly successful research program, attract independent research funding, teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and engage with students from diverse backgrounds.
