Job Description
Nominations and applications are now being accepted for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position within the Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Health Professions, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Rank, salary, and tenure status commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The primary responsibilities of this position will include the delivery of clinical service, including teaching clinical/practice skills, and service to the University.
Outstanding candidates with expertise in the delivery of occupational therapy services in Low Vision Rehabilitation and other pediatric and adult practice-based skills and experience will be considered.
Your duties will align with the academic programs conducted within the Department.
Specifically, the role will include: · Providing occupational therapy services to the Center for Low Vision Rehabilitation.
Clinical responsibilities in low vision include evaluation of individuals across the lifespan for functional impairments associated with vision loss from eye disease or brain injury and development and implementation of interventions designed to increase participation in everyday activities, including functional and community mobility.
(50%) · Providing occupational therapy services to a variety of specialty clinics across the UAB enterprise, including, but not limited to clinics such as the Stroke Recovery Clinic, ALS, clinic and others (10%) · Teaching within the departments’ graduate and post-professional programs – this will specifically focus on the development and support of all practical aspects, adult and pediatric, of the entry level Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy degree.
This will include facilitating the development of student skills through additional instruction and evaluation to compliment traditional classroom teaching.
In addition, supporting student examination and assessment of practical skills and knowledge to ensure fieldwork readiness (30%).
· Participation in department, school, community and national service activities, including supporting the initiatives to develop a faculty practice as articulated in the schools’ strategic plan (10%) The School of Health Professions is one of the nation’s largest and most diverse schools of its type with over twenty programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels.

Required Qualifications Candidates will have a degree in Occupational Therapy from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and will have an active occupational therapy license in the state of Alabama.
Candidates will have clinical experience in low vision rehabilitation and within a variety of other settings – adults and pediatric.
A degree or certification in vision rehabilitation is preferred Candidates will be expected to pursue, an earned clinical or research doctorate degree (e.

, PhD, DSc, OTD) from an accredited university.
